There are only SEVEN senior sessions left at Sandeen Photography in Ankeny! If you are a member of the class of 2018, do not wait any longer to get your session booked. The fall is approaching quickly, and winter will be here before you know it. Bring your ideas, bring your inspiration, and let's create something together that screams YOU! You are NOT ordinary, your pictures don't have to be either.
Teams are approaching Sandeen Photography more frequently to create a banner to hang outside of the dugout. This is their way of displaying the sponsors who have supported the team, and for on field recognition during tournament play. I'm told that these banners are hung up at every game. These types of teams have become one of my favorite subjects to photograph.
I couldn't wait to show off the newest team banner we created for Team Velocity. It isn't always possible, but when the team name can be incorporated into the theme of the banner, it really adds another dimension to eh design. Easier said than done in most cases, however this had a good feeling to it when it was all said and done. Not to mention, the athletes looked the part. Watch out for these girls this fall, good team Velocity!
Everyone needs senior pictures, but what is a senior picture experience? At Sandeen Photography, we take you from conception to the delivery of a final printed product. Anyone can go make pictures, anyone can learn how to make the basic portrait, but not everyone can provide the experience you are truly after. True, not everyone will want to jump into a creek with smoke bombs attached to an umbrella. Nor will everyone want to cover their hair in flour and capture a hair whip. I'm not even sure how many people will want to stage a rainy night and be photographed in it, but it sure does produce some unique results.
This is just one aspect of a senior session. We enjoy very natural looking beautiful portraiture just as much as the creative shots. However, pairing a unique idea with talents and interests of our senior clients is the ultimate goal. We celebrate your passions with a piece of photographic art. Not to mention the story you will leave here with. Every time you see this image of yourself, you will remember the getting ready process, the fun you had at the shoot, and the smiles and laughs shared with your loved ones who were in attendance. There is no better way to put time in a bottle. THAT is a senior experience.

"I just never thought it would turn out like that" or "we didn't understand how you would pull that all together" statements are typically followed by "we love it"
Sandeen Photography specializes in Senior Pictures, Sports Pictures, and Weddings. I wanted to share a little bit about some of the projects I have done in the last year.
Simply put, the athletes bring the attitude, and I bring the art. It's the perfect "double play". Softball in Ankeny Iowa is incredibly popular, and its keeps most young athletes busy for 3 out of 4 seasons. I have been fortunate enough to be involved with some of these teams over the past year, and enjoyed working with each and every one.
The Ankeny Hawkettes came through the studio last year, and we created three banners to honor the Class of 2017 Seniors, as well as their yearly sports poster. All of the young ladies involved were awesome to work with.
We photograph with other sports teams as well, but Softball has been the most prevalent sport so far.
Younger teams have also taken advantage of the services offered at Sandeen Photography for their sports banner/poster needs as well. The Johnston Dragons, Ankeny Riot, and Diablas all came to the studio for their photos as well. Do you have a team that creates a yearly sports poster to hang up all over your local town? Do you need a banner designed and printed for display? Do you need team and individual pictures for your sports teams? If so, contact Sandeen Photography to find out how we can fulfill those needs.
As a creative, it's crucial to step out of the box and try new techniques. Often challenging and sometimes frustrating, sharpening your skills is essential in photography. Personal projects outside of my normal genres are where I quickly turn to hone new techniques. Shooting with gels on lights is definitely not a new concept. However, this project made me think differently about how they can be used, and how to finesse them into my other portrait work. Alex is a fellow photographer, makeup artist, as well as a local model. Being a fellow creative from Des Moines made her the perfect subject to work with. We ended up with some killer shots out of my studio in Ankeny, and I just had to share some of the results.
No studio session is complete without stepping out into the local junkyard. This is one of the things I love MOST about being based in Ankeny. The variety of locations available to me is almost limitless within 10-15 mins of my front door. This was an extremely productive shoot, and I just couldn't wait any longer to push the results out into the world. I really enjoy the multiple looks we were able to achieve in the short amount of time we photographed.
